House 8 – Intimacy and Intensity

Do you know how you give yourself in a relationship?

If our life was a palace, as mentioned before, the gate would be House 1 (and Ascendant); the safe would be House 2; the car would be House 3; the land would be House 4; the playground garden would be House 5; the study would be House 6, the guestroom would be House 7.

House 8 is considered one of the most thrilling houses of astrological metaphysic. It represents the Couple’s Bedroom: its entire dynamic of intimacy, society and profound sharing.

In a sense, it is a House of Passion, i.e., to surrender in the arms of another person and in a joint project of identities fusion. It is the emotional surrender and material gift.

But it is also a House of Crisis, since it entails the transformation and relinquishment of all that is MINE (House 2) in function of all that it is OURS (House 8). It is a little bit like withdrawing money from your personal account to increase the joint account, trusting in your partner.

From a more profound perspective, it represents the way how I feel appreciated by others and to what extent I am conditioned by that. It is therefore associated to love and acknowledgement expectations – because it also reflects the way I believe in others.

People with many planets in House 8 have a tendency to live joint projects – whether it is in matrimony or business partnerships – running the risk of “depending” on somebody else’s resources by thinking that these are their own, living authentic “bankruptcies” if the project ends.

It is a dimension of life that is associated to areas so diversified as finances, medicine, sexuality, death, crisis, cure, persuasion, passion and psychic power. To live House 8 is like assuming the loss of total control and dive into the unknown, trusting someone that moves us.

With the Sun in this House, the “couple’s bedroom” will tend to be illuminated, wide, rich – it is there that the individual will shine and focus great part of his life experiences, even if his surrender entails earthquakes.

With the Moon in House 8, the “inner child” will be experienced in intimacy, which means that the “couple’s bedroom” will be a place of fantasy, instability and strong dependences.

With Mercury, the individual may be a good psychological analyst and skilled in joint management, thus creating strong relationships of complicity and friendship.

With Venus, the “couple’s bedroom” will be a natural space of leisure and pleasure, on which sexuality and affection will be of great importance. However, there may be an excessive appreciation of others.

With Mars in House 8, there will naturally be a competition in intimacy and difficulties in sharing for the confrontation of ideals. The challenge is to make “umbilical cord” cuts and be a true saviour of someone else’s treasures.

With Jupiter, there will be an instinctive gullibility in others and easiness in giving, as well as a great recognition potential for the emotional or sexual “embrace”. It may indicate protection in crisis.

With Saturn, the great lesson of life will be “sharing” and overcoming of all fears or mistrusts in the “conjugal leap”.

Although it does not facilitate conviviality, it may indicate Hercules’s tasks to be performed with others, in psychological situations or limit materials.

With the transpersonal planets (Uranus, Neptune and Pluto), the communion experience can become fundamental for the existential, mental and physical catharses.

If you were born mid-afternoon, approximately between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., depending on the time of year and country you were born, you will have the Sun in House 8.

In that context, it is important to be aware of the treasure that your relationships and common sharing of life can be at several levels (loving, professional and familiar).

Believe, trust and accept experiencing projects with another person, for common ideals, even if that entails risks. As long as you feel love and passion to the limit, from the evolutionary point of view, it will be an attitude to benefit from.

Some famous personalities with the Sun in House 8 are: Edgar Cayce; Demi Moore; Nelson Mandela; among others.

This House is equally important if there is more than one planet positioned in it. To verify this, and in case you do not have your map yet, please refer to the annex at the end of the Ebook Houses of Happiness (free download here).

House 8 has a natural affinity with Scorpio, the eighth sign of the Zodiac.
